New archival recordings from Michael Pisaro's Dog Star Orchestra
Enclosed is a really remarkable experimental compilation. Not only are many of the works world premieres, they're all made by a group of music lovers who gather to do this once a year, and who probably number less than 40 or so. The analog mastering brings out the warmth and beauty that we've come to love about seeing this music performed in intimate spaces.
The title track, Jennie Gottschalk's "Enclosed III," explores the hidden resonances sealed in the body of a grand piano. But the music itself has prismatic implications for composition, perception, and the sensual pleasure of listening. As each cloud of sound dissipates we are carried up into a fleeting, lived moment.
Highlights include pieces by Christian Wolff and Craig Shepard, as well as Human Ear peeps Mark So and Julia Holter. Recorded on location and engineered by Dublab's Jake Viator.
"Enclosed" will be available for free download or on handmade CD in August 2010.
