Janet Kim is a songwriter, community leader, teacher and gallerist from Los Angeles.

A virtuoso pianist and collaborator with Michael Pisaro, Ariel Pink, Trip and John Maus, she has fronted the band Softboiled Eggies since 2005. Under that moniker she has created a variety of music, including two home-recorded and two studio albums, ranging from hushed bedroom pop to frenetic post punk.

From 2006 to 2009, she headed the seminal Los Angeles art and music incubator Tiny Creatures. There she hosted (and in many cases, debuted) a number of key independent artists and musicians, including Nite Jewel, Jason Yates, Matt Fishbeck, Jason Grier & Julia Holter, James Orsher, Mecca Vazie Andrews, Ariel Pink, John Maus, Weave, No Age and many, many more. The space was famously guest-curated by No Age and then Nite Jewel, the latter having given her first performance there. Janet Kim currently runs a new Echo Park gallery named Larkspur Cabin.

Aside from being a close community relative to Human Ear, Janet Kim has released a full length CD on the label, and served as its Chief Operations Officer for 2008. In 2009 she headlined our summer concert series and helped conduct the first Human Genius project. She appears on our 2010 compilation series, and as a principal vocalist on Tombstones.
