Julia Holter is a singer and composer from Los Angeles.
Hyper-active in the new music world, she has collaborated, performed and put out records with Sharon Cheslow, Linda Perhacs, Ariel Pink, Gudrun Gut, Nite Jewel and Ensemble 303, among many others. She has frequently performed (and had her own work performed by) Michael Pisaro, and is Jason Grier's studio producer of choice.
Selections from her large body of home recorded work have been released by Human Ear, by herself, and on various alternative labels worldwide. She is Human Ear's co-founder and creative supervisor.
Her thematically rich, delicately orchestrated music deals with memory, process and divinity unpretentiously. It encompasses academic and pop traditions and treats experimental sound practices to otherworldly depth and beauty.
